Pumpkin Dance, October 31st 2003
(Lost the original flyer)
We were living water, journeying through all its phases, molecules of H2O drawn together in shifting polar bonds. The light from the fountain altar shimmered on the surface above us, and waves of energy reflected and refracted in our bodies.
In our cave we came together with the instinct of wintering animals, dancing together in a living dream, sharing in ritual stillness, communicating in subterranean ways.
A leaf-bare forest sprang up in the Planet Earth Yoga studio and pumpkins shone their faces. We passed through a veil of leaves to enter the space and squirmed through a pile of them like worms to start the dance. Wonderful smells of freshly fallen leaves and baking pumpkins!
Pillows! You can snuggle in 'em, you can throw 'em, you can bounce them on a sheet! This was a comfy and playful one. Just dancers, pillows, blankets, a large ball, a few slide projections, and a little bit of mischief!
Marking the 23rd anniversary of the eruption of Mt. St. Helens and the abrupt ending of my sixth grade career, we shared May 18th stories, got smudged with Mt. St. Helen's ash, and danced in and out of a giant glowing volcano created from a large parachute. Thanks to Emily, Jackie, John, and Dawn for helping create the space (earth altars, fire altars, tunnels and all)!
Thanks Virginia for the set design - dozens of small, fancifully wrapped presents spinning on their strings throughout the space, each containing an imaginitive, intuitive gift. Thanks for helping wrap presents, Soleil!
My first venture bringing the theme dances to Seattle. Thanks Virginia for figuring out how to honor the ancestors and the season, thanks for taking the dance in hand. Thanks Jayney for creating sacred space. Thanks Michal and Ines for invoking a bit of butoh. Thanks Al for helping building the veil between the worlds.
